Why Install Now

Ontario Hydro Jumped 30% Last November. The Next Increase Hits May 1.

Three things changed in Ontario energy pricing since November 2025. Each one makes solar a stronger financial decision than it was a year ago.

Rate shock +30% Hydro rates jumped Nov 1, 2025

OEB approved the largest single RPP increase since 2019. TOU on-peak: 20.3¢/kWh. ULO on-peak: 39.1¢/kWh. Tier 1: 12.0¢. Tier 2: 14.2¢.

The Installation Process

From First Call to Power-On in 8–12 Weeks

Physical installation takes 1–3 days on your roof. The rest is paperwork — ESA notification, LDC interconnection, HRSP pre-approval — which we handle end-to-end. You don't talk to a single government office.

01Week 1

Free site assessment

Satellite analysis + on-site visit. We measure roof orientation, shading, structural condition, and review your last 12 months of hydro use.

02Weeks 2–4

Permits & HRSP filing

Municipal permit, ESA Notification of Work, LDC Offer to Connect, HRSP pre-approval. We handle the paperwork end-to-end.

03Days 30–45

Installation (1–3 days)

ESA-licensed crew installs racking, mounts panels, runs wiring, commissions inverter. Triple-flashed roof penetrations.

04Days 45–60

ESA inspection & activation

ESA Certificate of Acceptance, LDC commissioning, monitoring app setup. You start saving on your next billing cycle.

i

Critical HRSP rule: Pre-approval from Save on Energy AND your LDC is required BEFORE any equipment is purchased or installed. Skipping this step is the #1 reason rebates get rejected. We submit your pre-approval as the first step of every project.

Transparent Ontario Pricing

Real Numbers. Before and After HRSP.

Most Ontario installers hide pricing behind "Request a Quote." Below are real installed prices at $2.42–$3.50 per watt — the current Ontario 2026 market rate. Final price depends on roof complexity and equipment selection.

System SizeTypical HomeAnnual ProductionBefore HRSPAfter HRSP Rebate
5 kW solar1,200–1,500 sq ft, 1 EV~6,000 kWh/yr$16,500$11,500
7.5 kW solar1,800–2,200 sq ft, no EV~9,000 kWh/yr$22,500$17,500
10 kW + PowerwallFull electrification + backup~12,000 + battery$44,000$34,000
12 kW solar3,000+ sq ft, full electrification~14,400 kWh/yr$34,000$29,000

Prices include design, equipment, installation labour, ESA permit fees, building permit, HRSP application, LDC interconnection, monitoring setup, up to 10-year workmanship warranty. Excludes 13% HST, electrical panel upgrade (if 100A maxed), tree trimming, roof repair if needed.

HRSP vs Net Metering — you must choose one

HRSP gives you up to $10,000 cash off but requires load-displacement sizing (no grid export). Net metering exports surplus for 1:1 retail credits but pays no rebate. We model both paths against your hydro usage before quoting. See our complete rebates guide →

Scope of Work

Everything That's Included. Nothing Hidden.

A real Ontario quote breaks out every line item. Watch for installers who quote "all-in" without listing what's included — those quotes often add $2,000–$5,000 in surprise charges mid-project.

✓ Included in every install

  • Tier-1 solar panels (Canadian Solar, Longi, Trina, JA Solar)
  • Enphase IQ8 microinverters or SolarEdge optimizers
  • IronRidge / Unirac aluminium racking
  • All wiring, conduit, AC and DC disconnects
  • Panel-level monitoring system + app setup
  • Municipal building permit application
  • ESA Notification of Work + inspection scheduling
  • LDC interconnection application
  • HRSP rebate pre-approval and submission
  • Triple-flashed, butyl-sealed roof penetrations
  • Up to 10-year workmanship warranty
  • Lifetime leak-free penetration guarantee

– Not included (quoted separately if needed)

  • Roof repair or replacement (if older than 12 years)
  • 200A electrical panel upgrade (if 100A service maxed)
  • Tree trimming for shading mitigation
  • Battery storage (optional — separate Powerwall quote)
  • 13% HST on materials and labour

Why "up to" matters

Manufacturer warranties are issued by the manufacturer and survive any installer's bankruptcy. Workmanship warranties don't. That's why choosing an ESA-licensed Electrical Contractor matters more than choosing the "biggest" solar brand — workmanship is the part that can disappear with your installer.

Our Team

ESA-Licensed Crews. No Subcontractors.

Direct accountability on every install

Every person on your roof is directly employed by Superior Solar Pros. Every installation is supervised by a Master Electrician. We do not subcontract — the team that quotes your job is the team that installs it.

Most Ontario solar companies dispatch sales reps and subcontract the actual install to whichever crew is cheapest that week. The crew on your roof has never met the company you signed with. We don't operate that way.

  • ESA/ECRA Licensed Electrical Contractor
  • Master Electrician on every install
  • WSIB compliant — fully covered crews
  • $2,000,000 commercial general liability insurance
  • Working at Heights certification (Ontario MOL requirement)

Common Questions

Solar Installation — Honest Answers

How much does solar installation cost in Ontario in 2026?

A 7.5–10 kW residential system costs $18,000–$35,000 before incentives, at $2.42–$3.50 per installed watt. After HRSP rebate ($5,000 solar + $5,000 battery), most homeowners pay $13,000–$25,000 net. Final pricing depends on roof complexity, equipment selection, and whether your electrical service needs upgrading.

How long does the installation actually take?

Physical work on your roof: 1–3 days. Total timeline from contract to first kWh produced: 8–12 weeks. Most of that is paperwork — LDC interconnection approval, ESA inspection, HRSP pre-approval — all of which we coordinate.

How does the Ontario HRSP rebate work?

The Home Renovation Savings Program pays $1,000 per kW solar (capped at $5,000) plus $300 per kWh battery storage (capped at $5,000) — combined maximum $10,000. Pre-approval from Save on Energy AND your LDC is required BEFORE installation begins. Active through November 2026, first-come, first-served budget.

Will solar panels work in Ontario winters?

Yes. Modern panels are rated to −40°C and produce on cloudy days. Southern Ontario generates 1,100–1,200 kWh per kW per year — better solar yield than Germany, the world's largest solar market by installed capacity. Snow typically slides off panels within 1–3 days at standard rooftop pitches.

Will solar damage my roof?

No, when installed correctly. We use stainless steel lag bolts into roof rafters with triple-layer flashing — aluminium plate, EPDM rubber gasket, butyl sealant. We provide a lifetime leak-free guarantee on every penetration we make. If your roof is older than 12 years, we tell you honestly during assessment.

Why does my installer need to be ESA-licensed?

Every grid-connected solar install in Ontario must be performed by a Licensed Electrical Contractor with valid ECRA/ESA licence — provincial law under the Electricity Act, 1998. Without it: system can't legally operate, insurance may deny related claims, HRSP rebate ineligible. Verify any installer at licensing.esasafe.com.

What if my installer goes out of business?

Manufacturer warranties on panels (up to 25 years from Canadian Solar, Longi, Trina) and inverters (up to 25 years from Enphase) are issued directly by the manufacturer and survive any installer's bankruptcy. Workmanship warranties don't. Choose an ESA-licensed Electrical Contractor whose primary business is electrical work — not a sales-only solar brokerage.

Your company is newer — why choose Superior Solar Pros?

Honest answer: we don't have 10,000 installs behind us. But no backlog of unanswered service tickets, broken subcontractor relationships, or warranty claims queue either. You work directly with our master electrician on every install. Every system passes ESA inspection. $2M public liability. Direct line to our master electrician + 90-day workmanship satisfaction guarantee.
